Joy Ude is a fibers / mixed media artist and designer. In her artwork, she explores Black culture as a subset of American culture by addressing sociological issues including education and employment. She also compares and contrasts aspects of Nigerian culture with Black American culture in some of her artwork.
Ude earned her BFA in Fashion Design in 2005 from the University of North Texas. After working in the fashion industry for several companiesincluding J.C. Penney and Levi Straussshe returned to grad school. Ude graduated from the University of North Texas in May 2013 with her MFA in Fiber Arts.
Her work has been included in several regional and national shows, including CraftTexas, Fantastic Fibers, and Fiberart International.
